Ultralight and flexible CNT-doped veils

Innovative Meltblown Nonwoven Fabric for the Composite Industry

Our advanced meltblown nonwoven fabric is a state-of-the-art solution for the composite industry. Manufactured using thermoplastic polymers and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT), it is an innovative material with exceptional properties. Thanks to its unique structure, the CNT-doped veil not only imparts electrical conductivity to reinforced composites but also significantly enhances their mechanical properties by improving impact resistance and reducing delamination issues.

This is an ideal solution for modern applications in the aerospace, automotive, and sports industries, where durability, lightweight properties, and functionality are key factors.

Flexible Production Process and Customization

The meltblown production process enables the creation of fine, uniform fibers that provide excellent physical and chemical properties. Our production line allows for continuous manufacturing of nonwoven fabric up to 300 mm in width, batch production of sheets up to 600 mm x 900 mm in size, as well as pilot orders and short test series, enabling the material parameters to be customized to specific customer needs. This flexibility allows us to respond swiftly to market demands and support research and development processes in the composite industry.

The CNT-doped veil finds broad applications in fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, where it improves mechanical performance and durability, in electroconductive applications by eliminating electrostatic charge accumulation, and in advanced products requiring weight reduction and enhanced impact resistance. Due to its well-dispersed nanofiller with a high specific surface area and a high aspect ratio of nanoparticles, our nonwoven fabric enables the introduction of additional functionalities with minimal filler loading.

Advanced Nanotechnology and Application Safety

The CNT-doped veil is available as a ready-to-use semi-finished product that requires no special equipment or additional processing. It can be used like typical nonwoven fabrics or textiles in the composite industry. Acting as a carrier for nanofillers, it eliminates the need for free-form nanomaterials, significantly improving safety during use. Operators do not come into direct contact with nanoparticles, which, once embedded in the thermoplastic matrix of the nonwoven fabric, are not released in free form.

Through advanced production process control, we can precisely tailor the nonwoven fabric’s parameters to meet individual customer requirements, optimizing material properties for specific applications. Our technology enables an experimental approach to production, allowing for the testing of new formulations and the optimization of material properties according to customer specifications. With precise process control and the use of nanotechnology, we can develop materials tailored to the most demanding applications.

Our team of specialists has extensive experience in materials engineering and polymer technology, allowing for continuous development and improvement of our products.

Intermediate product in composite material production processes

The CNT-doped veils we offer are intermediate products in composite material production, used as:

  • surface finishing to achieve electrical and thermal conductivity (1)
  •  interleaves in layered composites to improve electrical as well as thermal and mechanical properties while at the same time eliminating the problem of delamination (2)

Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymers

CNT-doped veils can be used in Carbon or Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymers manufactured with techniques using liquid resin or pre-pregs based on epoxy or polyester resins.

Eliminating the use of nanoparticles in hazardous form

CNT-doped veils allow for the safe and easy introduction of carbon nanotubes into composites, eliminating the need to work with nanotubes in hazardous powder form.
CNT-doped veils are delivered in the form of rolls with a maximum width of 30 cm.

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes

The nanofiller used are multi-walled carbon nanotubes, which are stirred with a selected polymer and granulated. The amount of nanotubes in the veils is adapted to the desired composite properties.
We also produce veils doped with other fillers or without any fillers, depending on the composite structures’ desired functionalities.

Wide selection of veils

The nonwovens are produced from different plastics varying in melting temperature and compatibility with the resins used in composite production processes.
In addition to the nonwovens in stock (coPA, PA12, PBT, ECTF and PPS), we can also develop new ones adapted to customer requirements.

Varied areal weight

We possess the ability to produce nonwovens with varied areal weight – from 10g/m 2 to >100g/m 2. The nonwovens have different thicknesses depending on the areal weight.

Thermally bonded fibres

These materials have the form of entangled fibres with diameters under 100 μm, their advantage being the lack of chemical binder.
